Tebow to Headline Local Youth Fundraiser
FRESNO – Tickets are now on sale for the inaugural The Inspire Gala, featuring keynote speaker Tim Tebow, the quarterback for the New York Jets and first sophomore recipient of the Heisman Trophy.
The gala, coming to the Fresno Convention Center on April 5, will benefit a special mentorship program that is a partnership between Fresno Christian Schools and Break the Barriers. Juniors and seniors from Fresno Christian Schools come regularly to the Break the Barriers facility to become “buddies” with the kids there, and to help them along through different physical tasks through encouragement, thus building on their self-esteem.
“They’re building a relationship, rather than just getting their time in,” said Deby Hergenrader, executive director and co-founder of Break the Barriers. “And it’s a relationship that they probably would not be able to experience if they didn’t have the mentorship.”
Debbie Siebert, superintendent of Fresno Christian Schools, said the program fits in perfectly with the high school junior and seniors’ Bible classes.
“I’m always looking for ways to get our children out into the community where they can serve during the school day,” Siebert said.
Tebow’s message on April 5 will be “Living a Life of Significance.” For other information and to purchase tickets, visit www.inspiregala.com.
