FRESNO – Last night in Fresno was referred to as “Ladies’ Night Out,” as Susan G. Komen Central Valley presented its first-ever Pink Bag Social.

Roughly 100 women (and a small number of men) filled the Skyroom Lounge in the Holiday Inn Fresno Downtown for an evening of socialization, hors d’oeuvres, and perhaps more importantly, pink bags filled with information pertaining to breast cancer, including four steps to breast self-awareness and overall health.  Also included in the bags were coupons to local establishments, and a raffle was held.  Following the Pink Bag Social, attendees were treated to a free Fresno Grizzlies baseball game that evening.

Visitors of the Pink Bag Social also had the opportunity to register for the Susan G. Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure, to be held at Fresno State on Oct. 26 at Fresno State.

Executive Sharon Johnson, executive director of Susan G. Komen Central Valley, was able to address those at the Pink Bag Social, and tell her story of being a two-time breast cancer survivor.

“I really appreciate the response that we’ve received thus far, because we are at capacity and we never did expect it,” Johnson said just prior to the event.  ”I think women wanting to network and learn a little bit more about breast cancer and the Race for the Cure coming up in October, we should have a really fantastic evening.”
