Susan G. Komen Central Valley to Host Inaugural Pink Bag Social
FRESNO – July 18 is now being referred to as a “Ladies’ Night Out,” as Susan G. Komen will host its inaugural Pink Bag Social in the Holiday Inn Skyroom Lounge in downtown Fresno, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The event is free to the public, and in addition to complimentary hors d’oeuvres, no-host bar and prizes, each guest will receive a pink bag. Inside the bag will be information pertaining to breast cancer, including four steps to breast self-awareness and overall health. Coupons from local businesses will also be placed inside each bag, and attendees of the social will receive a complimentary ticket to that night’s Fresno Grizzlies baseball game.
“It’s our first time ever to host an event downtown, because we wanted this opportunity to reach the employers and employees in that area,” said Sharon Johnson, executive director of Susan G. Komen Central Valley. “We started with downtown because we wanted that new connection.”
After the social, guests will make their way to that night’s Grizzlies game at Chukchansi Park, where it will be “Ladies’ Night.” As part of the festivities, the Grizzlies will conduct a silent auction, with 100 percent of the proceeds to be given to Susan G. Komen Central Valley. Attendees can also register for the 2013 Susan G. Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure, coming to the Fresno State campus on Saturday, October 26.
Future Pink Bag Socials will be held at different spots throughout Fresno, but local employers won’t have to wait for the next one to get a taste of what they are like. They can request a Pink Bag Lunch for their employees, where a Komen representative will conduct a presentation and pass out educational materials.
Johnson said the Pink Bag Social on the 18th should be the first of many, another effort from Susan G. Komen Central Valley in its mission in providing breast cancer awareness, treatment, and someday to find a cure.
“For those who attend there will be a fantastic opportunity to empower, educate themselves about the four steps to breast self-awareness, and to have a girl’s night out,” Johnson said.
Sponsors for the Pink Bag Social are the Holiday Inn Fresno Downtown, the Skyroom Lounge, the Fresno Grizzlies, the Downtown Fresno Partnership, and Business Street Online.
Seating for the Pink Bag Social is limited to 150 people, so registration for this free event is required.
