FRESNO – The U.S. Small Business Administration and AARP will host a free “Financing Your Small Business” workshop on April 25.  SBA and AARP are again teaming up in April to host National Encore Entrepreneur Mentor Month and this workshop is targeted to promote entrepreneurship among individuals ages 50 and older, or encore entrepreneurs.  The workshop will include a presentation by SBA staff and a local SBA participating lender.

The workshop will provide information about specifics of SBA guaranteed loan programs from small loans for the home-based businesses to multi-million dollar real estate and manufacturing transactions.  Attendees will be provided with the necessary tools and information needed for a successful SBA loan application.

Carlos G. Mendoza, Fresno SBA district director said, “It is never too late to start a small business and securing business financing is a key contributor to a successful start.  Many older entrepreneurs are using their experience and connections to start new businesses.  This workshop will provide information on SBA loan programs and assist encore entrepreneurs to start, grow and develop their own small businesses.”

Mentor Month will consist of events across the country that will match encore entrepreneurs with mentors who have small business experience. The events will also help connect encore entrepreneurs with mentors from SBA’s resource partner network of Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), Women’s Business Centers (WBCs), and SCORE chapters who can help with every stage of a company’s life cycle.

With one in four individuals ages 44 to 70 interested in becoming entrepreneurs, and 63 percent of Americans planning to work during retirement, small business ownership is a good option. Small business owners with long-term counselors see bigger sales, hire more workers and have more longevity. SBA and AARP will provide the training and mentoring services older entrepreneurs need to successfully start and grow businesses and create jobs. For more information on encore entrepreneurship, go to www.sba.gov/encore.

The location of the workshop will be the   U. S. Small Business Administration, located at 801 R St., Suite 201, 2nd Floor, Fresno, Calif. 93721 on April 25.  It will be held from 8:45 – 11 a.m., and the cost is free.  Reservations are required. To make a reservation, contact William Hori at (559) 487-5791 or fresno@sba.gov.
