FRESNO – Seven local high school robotics teams will put on a robotics demonstration at the Fresno Ideaworks Mini Maker Faire on Sunday, April 21 at Chukchansi Park. Buchanan High School, Duncan Polytechnic High School, Edison High School, Christian Home Educators of the Fresno Area (CHEFA), Clovis High School, Clovis North High School, and Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART) will all participate in the Robotics Demonstration.

Each school will display the same robots they used in competitions, such as the regional 2013 FIRST Robotics Competitions in Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, Inland Empire, and Madera. The robots are capable of driving and throwing discs autonomously as well as by remote control. Team members from each high school will be on hand to answer questions.

The Fresno Ideaworks Mini Maker Faire, in conjunction with Make magazine, is the first Mini Maker Faire held in Fresno and first hosted by a sports team. The event will be held in the Tulare Plaza at Chukchansi Park from 12-5 p.m. To enter the Fresno Ideaworks Mini Maker Faire, all attendees need to purchase a ticket to the Grizzlies’ game. Tickets for the game start at $8.

The maker movement defines the actions of millions of people who have begun to self-produce everyday items and creative projects. Makers embrace the DIY culture as well as solve problems and create their own path by using their passion to produce things.

Maker Faires and Mini Maker Faires are held all over the world each year, including 59 in 2012. The two flagship Maker Faires include the Maker Faire Bay Area and World Maker Faire New York. The Maker Faire Bay Area for 2013 will be held on May 18 and 19 in San Mateo, Calif.
