FRESNO - Philanthropy Inspired by the Needs of our Community (PINC), a unique Fresno nonprofit founded in 2008 to benefit other local nonprofits in the community, has announced the beneficiary for its 5th annual fundraising event to be held on June 15, 2013. The beneficiary for the event, titled “PINC-A-Palooza,” will be Catholic Charities – Diocese of Fresno, a nonprofit who has been serving low-income Fresno County residents for over 45 years.

Even though PINC is still considered a fairly new nonprofit organization, its members have been accomplishing great things in the community. Since 2009, PINC has raised a total of $103,000 through its annual fundraising events benefitting Angel Babies of Hinds Hospice (2009); Marjaree Mason Center (2010); Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central California (2011) and Break The Barriers (2012).

“We are excited to continue our mission to serve the needs of our community with this year’s fundraising event benefitting Catholic Charities Diocese of Fresno,” said Erin Salwasser, current president of PINC. “We have set our goal to raise over $30,000 at this year’s event. In order to do this, we need the support of the community through sponsorships, monetary donations or silent auction donations and event attendees. So we encourage individuals and businesses to join in our efforts and get involved with our June event!”

PINC members selected Catholic Charities – Diocese of Fresno as its 2013 event beneficiary after a formal application process. Applications were reviewed by the PINC board and narrowed down to three finalists who then spoke at a PINC member meeting about what their organization does in the community and how the money will impact what they do. The PINC members then voted to select Catholic Charities as the beneficiary for its June 2013 event. “We heard from some great organizations doing amazing things in our community, which definitely made the decision for our members difficult,” Salwasser said.  ”However, we were inspired and impressed by the level of work that Catholic Charities does in our community, especially with the youth – and we are so excited that we will be able to support what they do through our fundraising event.”

Catholic Charities – Diocese of Fresno has been serving low-income Fresno County families for 45 years regardless of their religious affiliation. The charity offers emergency food and clothing services, as well as a Senior Companion Program and Representative Payee Program. The goal of Catholic Charities Diocese of Fresno is self-sufficiency for every client they serve; through the process of assessment of their individual circumstances, referrals to State, Federal and Local services are offered.  The average family that comes to Catholic Charities Diocese of Fresno earns less than $8,000 per year and 43% of the clients they help are under the age of 17.  For every dollar donated to the charity, 87 cents goes back to programs and services.

“We are honored PINC selected Catholic Charities to benefit from their June fundraising event,” said Kelly Lilles, executive director of Catholic Charities – Diocese of Fresno.  “Annually we serve 89,388 people of which 37,576 of those are children under the age of 17, providing food, clothing, emergency assistance and more. We exist to empower and help Fresno County residents while working to eliminate oppression and build a just, informed and compassionate society. Our collaboration with PINC will help raise funds to support our existing programs and continue to build awareness of the great need in our community.”
