MADERA – Applications for the 2014 Community Grant Program of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians and Madera County are now available and due on or before March 1, 2014

“Over the last seven years, the Community Grant Program has invested $7 million into our rural county,” said Tom Wheeler, 2014 chairman of the Madera County Board of Supervisors. “This program has helped to build playgrounds, upgrade libraries, remodel community facilities, implement educational programs, and improve medical services for our entire community. Even after it sunsets, the program will only continue to benefit our community.”

Now in its eighth year, the Community Grant Program will ultimately span 10 years and filter $10 million into the County. The program is funded by the Picayune Rancheria through a cooperative agreement with the County.

“Picayune Rancheria, over the years, in conjunction with Madera County, has been able to provide much needed funds to many deserving organizations in our area through the Community Grant Program,” said the tribal chairperson.  “We look forward to continuing that tradition this year and look forward to working with the County to ensure that this program continues to benefit the residents of Madera.”

The Community Grant Award banquet is generally held the third week of April. According to the cooperative agreement, grant recipients must expend funds within two years or the grant will be returned to the Tribe.

Grant applications are now being accepted at the offices of the Madera County Board of Supervisors, 200 West Fourth St., Madera, Calif. 93637. Qualified applicants are limited to agencies, schools, and non-profit organizations located in Madera County.
