Local Film Festival Returns to Kick Off a Fairytale Summer

FRESNO – The Germ, a film festival created by Fresno-based creative video production company Windsong Productions, is returning for the sixth time to kick off the summer on Thursday, June 27.

The Germ encourages local filmmakers to take the inspiration guidelines posted on its website and to create a short film based on them. The Germ is held three times a year and each event has a distinct inspiration, or “Germ”, for filmmakers to follow. The inspirations can be anything: an idea, song, color or photograph. Most Germs are also given time limits. The hope is that with each Germ, more and more filmmakers of all skill and experience levels will get involved and submit, helping to exponentially grow and connect Fresno’s creative community.

The Germ 06’s inspiration is “Modern Fairytale” with a time limit of five minutes. Each video must also contain a magical item.

“It’s a modern fairytale,” said Anthony Taylor, co-creator of The Germ. “What’s cool about this one, honestly is that we’re saying you have to have a magical item of some kind. It’s going to be interesting to see what people do with that and how people interpret a modern fairytale.”

The Germ is a one-of-a-kind event in Fresno that opens its doors to everyone in the community.

The sixth installment of The Germ will be held on Thursday, June 27, at 7 p.m. at Windsong Productions, 7676 N. Palm Ave., Suite 104, in Fresno. Submissions are due by 8 a.m. on Monday, June 24. Local food truck, Tako BBQ and a no-host bar will be on-site to provide food and refreshments.
