At 9 AM Tuesday Lee Brand was sworn in as Fresno’s mayor. Mayor Ashley Swearengin has already moved out of city hall, Brand posted a photo on Twitter of his new sign outside the mayor’s office.
In an interview the new mayor said his first 100 days will focus on public safety and the economy.
Brand wants to hire 200 police officers over about eight years bringing the department to 1,000 officers. He also wants the department to implement community-based policing.
In terms of the economy, he wants to tackle job creation and lower the city’s unemployment rate.
Brand’s says he has built a diverse transition team, members include business, clergy, labor and public safety leaders.
