VISALIA – On May 25, 2013 the Leadership Visalia class of 2013 organized Fingerprint Visalia, an event in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s 2013 Take 25 Campaign. More than 1,800 communities hosted unique events as part of the National Missing Children’s Day this year.

Leadership Visalia received a letter of thanks from the Ju’Riese Colon, executive director of external affairs as well as a certificate of appreciation for their efforts to support the Take 25 Campaign.

“I thank you for your time, your energy, and continued support of the Take 25 Campaign,” Colon said.  “We truly value your partnership and look forward to next year.”

This year for their class project, Leadership Visalia organized Fingerprint Visalia, an event that saw more than 400 attendees.  The event took place at Rawhide Stadium and featured complimentary ID kits for children, including the child’s fingerprints, photograph, and a list of other distinguishing characteristics used to help identify missing children.

Community support for this event was high.  More than a dozen local non-profit organizations and businesses set up booths to distribute important health and safety information to families and children. Additionally children enjoyed A&W floats, played on the large bounce slide, and explored the Visalia Fire Departments Truck during this event.

“This was a chance for the entire community to get involved and to preemptively make child safety a priority, rather then after an unfortunate tragedy,” said Leadership Visalia class member and event committee chair Ryan Stillwater.

Every child who completed the child ID kit was given a raffle ticket for a chance to win a new bike. The Leadership Visalia class with donations from local businesses raffled more than 30 children’s bikes during the event.

“We were all blown away at the success of this inaugural event which would not have happened without the incredible community support we received,” Stillwater said.

Each year the Leadership Visalia class chooses a project that benefits the community of Visalia. The Leadership Visalia class is made up of local business people who want to develop knowledge, experience and skills for effective and visionary leadership that will benefit each participant, their workplace and the community of Visalia.
