‘Heroes in HealthCare’ 2013 Awards Innovation Recipient – Workstations on Wheels

TULARE – Workstations on Wheels, used at Tulare Regional Medical Center, are basically mobile workstations that offer quicker responses for patients’ care.  The wireless mobile technology increases the amount of time clinicians and nursing staff can spend with patients, and improves the quality of care while adding to patient safety.

Previously, hospital staff had to make frequent trips between patients’ rooms and the nurses’ station in order to provide bedside care.  The WOW’s presence at the hospital solves that issue.  The WOW is constantly by the side of the user, and can go into different areas of the hospital, including the operating rooms.  The WOW’s scan the patients’ hospital wristbands, giving the user information that includes medication and nutrition.  It allows for safer medication administration, making sure the right patient gets the right dosage and type of medication.

The hospital currently has over 30 WOW’s, the first of which arrived in February of 2012.  They were purchased by the Tulare Hospital Foundation, and cost between $5,500 and $7,500, with a total investment of $264,000.  The hospital currently has more than 30 WOW’s.

The “Heroes in HealthCare” awards reception is coming to the Skyroom Lounge in the Holiday Inn Fresno Downtown.  Awards will be presented in the following categories:  Physician, Nurse, Healthcare Professional, Volunteer, Emergency Response, Innovation, and Dentist.  A special Lifetime Achievement Award will also be given.  Tickets are $55, and can be purchased at http://heroesinhealthcare.com/heroesinhealthcare.com/Tickets.html
