Groundbreaking Held for 10th St. Jude Dream Home

CLOVIS – Dirt was turned this morning on the 10th St. Jude Dream Home at De Young Properties’ CountryCourt Community, which will be the seventh home the major donor and builder for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway will construct in as many years.

People in central California will buy more than 10,000 $100 tickets, with each purchaser having the opportunity to win the home or other prizes.  This year’s home is a De Young Properties Energy Smart Residence 320, measuring in at about 3,300 square feet with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as a three-car super garage.  The brick accented cottage elevation home will have 18-inch tile floors and stainless steel General Electric appliances.

Ryan De Young, vice president of De Young Properties, said the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway has raised over $5.4 million for the hospital over the past six years.  The demand in recent years has been so great that there will be a slight increase in the amount of tickets for sale during the giveaway this year.  All of the money raised will go toward St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which shares its research on pediatric cancer freely with the rest of the world, including the central California area, and never turns away a child for treatment due to their financial state.

The De Young family has previously visited the hospital, which is based in Memphis, Tenn.

“It’s an amazing hospital,” Ryan De Young said.  “The second you step on campus you know you’re in a different place, and the details that they think about are amazing.”

Bob Whalen, chair of the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, is excited about the opportunity to raise another million dollars for the hospital.

“It has really been a great benefit for St. Jude, for the kids and the families who have the need for the services from St. Jude, but also for our community as well,” Whalen said.

Tickets go on sale August 15, and will be available for purchase at any De Young Properties model home center.  For more information, visit www.deyoungproperties.com.
