OAKHURSTFood enthusiasts in the Central Valley have a chance to enjoy some delicious creations from a popular Oakhurst restaurant while also helping a local nonprofit.

Crab Cakes is hosting a dinner on Wednesday, May 22, the proceeds from which will go to the Children’s Museum of the Sierra via the Steve 4 Mayor campaign.

Steve Montalto is the director of the Children’s Museum of the Sierra and is taking part in Oakhurst’s annual Honorary Mayor Race sponsored by the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce.

Each year, “candidates” raise money for a charity of their choosing. Each dollar raised is a vote, with the candidate raising the most money serving as the town’s honorary mayor, as Oakhurst is unincorporated and has no true mayor.

“This will be the first big event of the campaign, and we’re really excited to have Crab Cakes supporting our cause,” said Montalto.

“Roman and Laura Zabicki have always been tremendous supporters of the community and are once again showing their support by helping the museum,” he said.

The menu for the evening features a choice of three entrées that showcase the talents of Visalia native Chef Brian Velazquez.

“Chef Velazquez and Catering and Special Events Manager Linda Woods have put together a delicious sounding menu that I know will get a lot of people excited,” Montalto said.

After a house green salad topped with a pear vinaigrette, guests can choose from a broiled salmon topped with hollandaise sauce, a two-day brine quartered chicken or a double bone-in pork chop finished with Hawaiian butter sea salt. All entrées will have forbidden rice and braised kale and rainbow carrots on the side. The meal will be finished by a chef’s choice dessert from Sweet Dreams Cakery, another award-winning part of the Crab Cakes family of businesses.

The cost for the dinner is $30 per person all inclusive, with half of each plate going back to the museum.

The event is also kid-friendly, and children will be able to order off of Crab Cake’s famous kid’s menu.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. Guests wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by calling Jarrod Lyman at 559-683-4636.
