Fresno, Calif — The Big Fresno Fair is set to open Wednesday. For the first time, pieces of Fresno County’s history will be showcased in a museum of their own. Big Fresno Fair CEO John Alkire designed the new, two-story building.

The first floor showcases memorabilia including old fire trucks from the Fresno Fire Department, a Fresno Sports Hall of Fame and the original barracks windows from Hammer Field. Upstairs, work is underway to replicate a Fresno Federal Courtroom.

The original goddesses of justice overlook the replicated courtroom and above hang chandeliers from the original White Theatre, from the early 1900s. Just outside stands the iconic 1875 cupola.

Alkire says he hopes the museum will share stories and history for centuries to come. Wednesday, the first floor will be open to the public. The new 14-thousand square foot museum cost $2.8 million and is estimated for completion in the next year and a half.
