Central Valley Community Bank and Valley Crime Stoppers Expand Free Document Shredding Events Throughout the Valley
FRESNO – Daniel J. Doyle, chief executive officer of Central Valley Community Bank (CVCB) has announced the expansion of its free document shredding events to 18 locations throughout the San Joaquin Valley with the addition of Tulare County in 2014.
In its eighth year, the CVCB Free Document Shredding campaign allows businesses and individuals to shred confidential files safely and securely at Bank locations from April 8 through May 22, 2014. New this year, Central Valley Community Bank has partnered with Valley Crime Stoppers to provide useful resources at select CVCB events where Pacific Shredding offers the professional document shredding of up to six banker boxes per person or business for free (up to truck capacity).
During tax season in particular, both business and individuals look to assess and discard sensitive documents in an effort to protect against the rising threat of identity theft and fraud. As community partners, Central Valley Community Bank, Valley Crime Stoppers and Pacific Shredding offer this free service to existing customers and community members to ease the worry of this rising threat.
Identity theft and fraud continues to be among the nation’s fastest-growing types of fraud. According to the 2014 Identity Fraud Report released by Javelin Strategy & Research, there were 13.1 million victims of identity fraud in the United States in the past year, which equates to one victim every two seconds (see attachment). The number of identity fraud incidents increased by more than 500,000 victims in 2013, however, criminals stole $3 billion less than in 2012, still leaving the total criminal impact at $18 billion.
“Our goal is to educate the community on the ways to protect their personal and business information by providing identity protection tips and resources year-round on our website at www.cvcb.com , in addition to our annual Free Document Shredding events,” Doyle said. ”Despite our dedicated efforts, identity theft and fraud continues to take place in the Valley, which is why we strive to provide the opportunity for customers and community members to confidently shred their information safely with a company they can trust. We are pleased to provide additional educational resources this year with our Valley Crime Stoppers partnership.”
“Valley Crime Stoppers is dedicated to providing a resource for the general public to report suspicious activity through our confidential tip-line at (888) 498-STOP (7867) to help reduce criminal incidents. Partnering with Central Valley Community Bank and their free document shredding events helps to expand our educational outreach and makes great sense,” said Dale Mendoza, board president of Valley Crime Stoppers.
Central Valley Community Bank offices in Fresno, Madera, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tulare counties are providing paper shredding services free of charge, up to six banker boxes per person or business, and up to shredding truck capacity.
