Bass Lake Classic Triathlon Raising Money for Local Youth Charities
BASS LAKE - The Third Annual Bass Lake Classic Triathlon and accompanying 5K Run for the Kids, taking place this year on June 1, continues to grow both in the number of participants and in the amount of help the events give local charities.
In the past three years since it was brought back, the Bass Lake Classic Triathlon has grown from a couple of hundred participants in 2011 to an expected sell out of 750 competitors this year. Also increasing is the number of charities the accompanying 5K will benefit.
“Proceeds from this year’s 5K are going to benefit three non-profits that help out our local youth” said Rhonda Salisbury with the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau, the co-entity responsible for putting on the event.
“The Mountain Area Ski School, or MASS, the Children’s Museum of the Sierra and Yosemite High School Athletic Department will all receive money from the run,” she continued.
The Women’s Council of Realtors is coordinating volunteers for the Triathlon in exchange for the proceeds of the 5K Run for the Kids for their charity, and has brought a lot of enthusiasm with its efforts. Sierra Tel has also come aboard again this year as sponsor for the event.
“We’re very excited to work with the Women’s Council of Realtors this year. They are really getting a lot of people interested in volunteering and to participate in the 5K” said Salisbury.
Theresa Wilson is with the Women’s Council of Realtors and spearheading the effort. She said the group was happy to take on the challenge.
“We’re running for the kids to raise money and awareness for these fabulous programs in our community,” said Wilson.
“The 5K provides a great way for the three charities to benefit from the proceeds and increased exposure,” she said.
Smokey Bear, himself, will start the 5K at the Start/Finish Line in the Pines Village at 7:45 am on Saturday, June 1. Participants will walk and run on Road 432 thru the Bass Lake homes and back to the Pines Village. For more information or to enter, visit www.BassLakeTri.com.
