’40 Under 40′ – John Chandler – Chandler Farms

Nov 04, 2013 No Comments by

John Chandler is a fourth generation farmer in the Central Valley. His family has been farming in Fresno County for over 100 years.  The farm grows peaches, plums, nectarines, almonds, citrus, and grapes for raisins and wine.

Chandler recently returned to the family farm after leaving his job as consultant to the California Senate Committee on Agriculture.  As consultant he analyzed, negotiated amendments, and briefed senators on agricultural policy issues and legislation before the committee.

Chandler graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor’s degree in fruit science.  He is a volunteer at the California State Railroad Museum and board member of the Fresno County Farm Bureau.  Currently, Chandler is a member of Class 2 of the Western Growers Young Volunteer Leaders Program.

Chandler lives in Fresno County and recently began keeping bees as a sideline to farming.  He enjoys his family, pack horse trips to the high sierra, restoring a Model TT truck, and trips to the coast.
