40 Under 40: Jarrod Lyman – Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau

Jarrod Lyman studied broadcast journalism at Northern Arizona University, and left after a couple of years to report the news at a network of radio stations in his hometown of Lake Havasu City in Arizona.  Several years later he got into his first tourism promotions and destination marketing organization, the Lake Havasu Convention and Visitors Bureau, where he stayed for six years before taking a position as the director of public relations and media for the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau.

The Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau covers all of Madera County, and Lyman’s job is to promote what the area has to offer.  The county is home to attractions such as Yosemite National Park, Bass Lake, the Madera Wine Trail, the Fossil Discovery Center and various museums.  Some of his duties include writing press releases, updating the Bureau’s website, sending out e-blasts, and creating monthly videos.

Lyman ran to be Oakhurst’s honorary mayor, during which time he raised more than $27,000 in just four months for the Children’s Museum of the Sierra.  He also helps the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst, Oakhurst Community Park, is the chair of the Madera Tourism Alliance, the Pomegranate Festival in Madera, Oakhurst Fall Festival, and the Bass Lake Triathlon.

Lyman obtained a business degree in 2011 from University of Phoenix.  He and his wife, Cindy, were married in 2001, and they have two children, Kaylee and Collin.  Lyman’s interests include baseball, fishing and science fiction.
