FRESNO – The U.S. Small Business Administration and AARP will host a free “Financing Your Small Business” workshop on Nov. 15.  Building upon the success of a joint SBA and AARP “National Mentor Day” last year, the workshop is targeted to promote entrepreneurship among individuals ages 50 and older, or encore entrepreneurs.  The workshop will include a presentation by SBA staff and a local SBA participating lender.

The workshop will provide information about specifics of SBA guaranteed loan programs from small loans for the home-based businesses to multi-million dollar real estate and manufacturing transactions.  Attendees will be provided with the necessary tools and information needed for a successful SBA loan application.

Carlos G. Mendoza, Fresno SBA District director said, “It is never too late to start a small business and securing business financing is a key contributor to a successful start.  Many older entrepreneurs are using their experience and connections to start new businesses.  This workshop will provide information on SBA loan programs and assist encore entrepreneurs to start, grow and develop their own small businesses.”

Currently there are over 76 million people over the age of 50 in the country, and many of them are interested in being entrepreneurs. New research found that one in four Americans between the ages 44 and 70 are interested in starting their own business or nonprofit venture in the next five to 10 years.  For more information about Encore Entrepreneurs or to find SBA programs and services information visit

The workshop will take place Nov. 15 at the U.S. Small Business Administration, located at 801 R St., Suite 201 in downtown Fresno.  It will last from 8:3. to 11 a.m., and the cost to attend is free.  Reservations are required as seating is limited.
