40 Under 40: Daniel Hartwig – Nisei Farmers League

Daniel Hartwig grew up in Easton, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics in 2003 and his MBA from California State University, Fresno in 2006.  He spent his childhood working on his family’s vineyard operation.

After graduating college, he worked for Paramount Citrus as an analyst from 2006 to 2007.  He joined the Nisei Farmers League as vice president of grower relations in 2008.  He currently serves in that capaci assisting employers with compliance issues.  He routinely works with staff from local, state and federal agencies on ag-related issues, including the development of the partnership between DOSH and the ag industry for heat-illness training which has trained more than 6,000 employers about heat illness safety.  Nisei Farmers League is one of the most powerful agricultural organizations in the state of California, and it works diligently to protect farmers, workers and the best interest of California agriculture.  It works closely with all local, state and federal legislature and is a responsible voice for the ag community as it fights everything from water rights to heat related illness.

Hartwig is the current president of the Easton Lions Club and served on the steering committee for the Salute Our Wounded Heroes event, which netted more than $110,000 for injured veterans and their families.  He and his wife, Jennifer, have two young children named Brooke and Colby.  Hartwig attends Immanuel Lutheran Church in Easton, where he has served as a trustee.  In his spare time he is involved in experimental cooking, and watches sports.
