LEMOORE – The summer session of classes at the West Hills College Lemoore campus officially kicked off today, with 29 additional classes in the West Hills Community College District combined.  Classes at the Coalinga campus will commence next Monday, June 17.

The addition of the 29 extra classes, which will also affect the North District Center in Firebaugh, have been introduced to keep up with the demand of several hundred more students.

“With the recent budget news we just received and the potential for more growth, we have decided to add sections to summer,” said Keith Stearns, associate vice chancellor, Academic and Information Services/Registrar.

Stearns said instruction and student services staff had been updating the class schedule.

“We chose classes with full or nearly full wait lists. The additional classes are those with the highest demand, and the expansion of offerings is specifically designed to provide students with the ability to obtain credits needed for college transfer and to build basic skills.”

West Hills College has also raised the capacity of some existing classes to accommodate more students. “We are committed to putting students’ needs first and what students need most is access to high demand classes,” said one college official.
