Susan G. Komen Central Valley to Introduce ’15 Faces for 15 Races’
FRESNO – As part of the celebration of 15 years of the Susan G. Komen Central Valley Race for the Cure on October 26, 15 of the most recognizable and influential people throughout the race’s history will be recognized as “15 Faces for 15 Races.”
The 15 individuals are still being selected, and each will be announced on www.komencentralvalley.org with a bio and photo in the weeks leading up to the race. Additional announcements will be made on the Susan G. Komen Central Valley Facebook.
“Because we are celebrating 15 years of serving our local residents with the life-saving breast cancer education and screening projects, we wanted to honor those Komen supporters, donors and participants that held a key role in helping us achieve our goals,” said Sharon Johnson, executive director of Susan G. Komen Central Valley.
Johnson mentioned that due to lack of funding, a couple of Komen education programs had to be discontinued. However, in the midst of the online early-bird registration period, which began last week, well over a dozen teams with 10 members each have already signed up for the race.
“It’s more than we’ve ever had register before June,” Johnson said. “We’re really issuing a challenge to all local residents to participate to ensure that these programs that we have now remain, and we can fund extra education programs.”
