New Airline Announces Services at Fresno Airport
FRESNO – Air service development at Fresno Yosemite International Airport continues to grow as Frontier Airlines announces plans to provide non-stop service from Fresno to Denver, Colorado beginning in May. The airline will provide flights three times a week.
In today’s aviation climate airlines are focused on their financial health, which translates into how they allocate capacity – where they place aircraft. Overall the airline industry is not planning on any capacity growth in 2013. Instead, reallocating resources has been the focus. Fresno Yosemite International Airport is a low-cost facility for an airline to operate at, which positions itself ahead of other airports competing for new service. Frontier Airlines’ interest in Fresno also illustrates a healthy market in the Central Valley region and the potential success of an underserved route.
“We’re excited about Frontier Airlines serving our community,” said Interim Director of Aviation Kevin Meikle. “As a low cost carrier in the Fresno market, their service will provide additional options and greater accessibility to Denver and connections beyond.”
Key attributes positioning Fresno Yosemite International Airport for new service is its strategy for cost containment and the ability to provide a modernized facility that is safe, secure and operationally efficient. One such amenity is shared-use technology which allows for greater flexibility for the airlines without costly facility expansions.
Currently nine carriers (AeroMexico, Alaska Air/Horizon, Allegiant, American Airlines, American Eagle, Delta Connection, United Express, US Airways, and Volaris) offer Valley passengers approximately 40 daily domestic and international departures from Fresno.
