Mayoral Proclamation on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, 2015
FRESNO, CA – In accordance with the Office of the President of the United States, Mayor Ashley Swearengin officially proclaims September 11, 2015 as “Patriot Day” in Fresno and urges all residents to take part in the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
“In spite of the horrific attack on American soil witnessed around the world on that fateful day, Americans from across the country rose together as one from the ashes of Ground Zero, with our purpose more steadfast, our hearts more resilient, and our nation more unified. Today, in our personal moments of prayer and reflection, let us remember that hope can and will triumph over fear and freedom must be won anew.
“Please join me in honoring the lives of those who perished, the brave citizens who selflessly put themselves in harm’s way to aid in the heroic rescue and recovery efforts, and the families of those who lost their loved ones in the tragedy. I also encourage everyone to visit www.HandsOnCentralCalifornia.org to look for opportunities to volunteer today in simple tribute to the selflessness and service that allowed our nation to heal.”
By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day,” and by Public Law 111-13, approved April 21, 2009, the Congress has requested the observance of September 11 as an annually recognized “National Day of Service and Remembrance.” The flags at all City of Fresno buildings will remain at half-staff through the day.
