‘Heroes in HealthCare’ 2013 Awards Volunteer Recipient – Clovis Community Hospital Guild
CLOVIS - The Clovis Community Hospital Guild has raised $825,000 for Clovis Community Medical Center since it was first formed in 1954.
The Guild is made up of about 50 volunteers that raise money in different capacities. Its foremost way of helping fund the hospital is through the gift shop, which is located on-site near the hospital’s main entryway. 100 percent of the money the gift shop pulls in goes back to the hospital. The Guild members combined put in 2,500 hours of work each month, and serve in at the hospital’s information desk, maternity unit and surgery waiting room. The money it has raised through the years has paid for a hospital fountain, items in the cath lab, and a waiting room.
Guild members participate in the Kiwanis Club golf tournament, and serve a luncheon once it is completed, for which Kiwanis gives them $2,500 for the hospital. It has a presence at a Clovis health fair, where potential members can sign up to volunteer. The Guild gives out three $1,500 scholarships each year for high school seniors in Clovis.
The Guild does more than just raise money. Many of the ladies crochet baby blankets and knit hats for newborns, some of which are sold in the hospital’s gift shop. They also knit and crochet blankets for dialysis patients.
