Giants World Series Trophies Viewed by Many at Chukchansi Park
FRESNO – Chukchansi Park, home of the Fresno Grizzlies, hosted the San Francisco Giants World Series 2010 and 2012 trophies yesterday evening as part of a three-month public tour that is making stops in Junior Giants communities in the northern California region.
The Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s trophy is crafted by Tiffany & Co. Junior Giants, which is under the umbrella of the Giants Community Fund, has more than 20,000 boys and girls from 80 underserved communities within the northern and central California and southern Oregon areas. The program focuses on non-competitive baseball games, and is designed so that the children can build on their confidence and leadership skills, as well as promote literacy and healthy living.
“It was really important to our organization to create a trophy tour which allowed us to connect with our fans and the more than 20,000 kids to participate in our Junior Giants baseball program,” said Larry Baer, Giants president and chief operating officer.
Excited fans who came to see the trophies also got a chance to receive a personal professional portrait with them. The suggested donation was $2 per person, and the funds were directed to the Junior Giants programs of the City of Fresno and the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno.
“It is not very often you get both the 2010 and 2012 World Series trophies to be on display at Chukchansi Park,” said Grizzlies Media Relations Coordinator Chris Kutz. “This is a great moment to share with our fans, and we are excited to share this moment with them. We are grateful for the San Francisco Giants bringing the trophies to Fresno and happy to support the Junior Giants leagues in our community.”
The Fresno Grizzlies will be holding their 52nd Anniversary Hot Stove Gala on Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Fresno Convention Center’s New Exhibit Hall in downtown Fresno. Special guests will be Ryan Vogelsong of the San Francisco Giants and Doug Fister of the Detroit Tigers. Tickets are available by calling (559) 320-2547.
