Fresno Grizzlies’ “Back to the Future”
The Fresno Grizzlies have announced they wearing cool uniforms for “Back to the Future” night. Would this be a bold promotion for any team to run? Absolutely, but it’s a little bolder considering it’s the Astros we’re talking about. They’re one of eight MLB teams who have never won a championship, with 2005 being the franchise’s lone appearance in the Fall Classic.
As if those facts alone aren’t enough, consider their performance in recent years at the big league level. The front office made the tough decision to completely tear everything down and rebuild from the bottom up. That led to three consecutive 100-loss campaigns (2011-13) and a current streak of six consecutive losing seasons.
They certainly have reason to be optimistic about the future — the 2014 squad finished with a 70-92 record, but they did improve by 19 games from the season before. Sports Illustrated really started this whole thing with a bold cover story last summer and the Grizzlies are running with it, but that doesn’t make it any less audacious.
Could the Astros be just a couple seasons away from bringing Houston its first-ever World Series title? It’s possible, but there’s also a good chance they won’t be. That’s why they play the game, ya know.
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2015 season, let’s first watch the Astros get themselves over .500 — which is something they haven’t done since 2008. Once that’s done, then maybe we can start thinking about the possibility of them being champions of the baseball world in a couple years.
