The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC) has granted Clovis Community College Initial Accreditation, taking it from center status to a full college.

The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC) accredits community colleges and other associate degree granting institutions in the Western region of the U.S. Accreditation is a voluntary system of self-regulation developed to evaluate overall educational quality and institutional effectiveness. The ACCJC accreditation process provides assurance to the public that the accredited member colleges meet the Standards; the education earned at the institutions is of value to the student who earned it; and employers, trade or profession-related licensing agencies, and other colleges and universities can accept a student’s credential as legitimate.

Clovis Community College is a college of State Center Community College District which now has the newest community college in California and the oldest community college in the state with Fresno City College which was established in 1910. State Center Community College District now has three full colleges, Fresno City College, Reedley College and Clovis Community College in addition to its two centers in Madera and Oakhurst. The District serves over one million residents, 18 unified and high school districts in a 5,500 square mile area. There is a seven member Board of Trustees which includes: Board President Ronald H. Nishinaka, Vice President Richard M. Caglia, Secretary John Leal, and Trustees Miguel Arias, Bobby Kahn, Patrick E. Patterson, and Eric Payne. The commission took action to grant initial accreditation and require the College to submit a Follow-Up Report in March 2016.

The Report will be followed by a visit of an external evaluation team. Initial accreditation with a Follow-Up Report is granted when the institution substantially meets or exceeds the Eligibility Requirements, Accreditation Standards, and Commission policies, but has recommendations on a small number of issues that must be addressed in order to keep the accredited status. The letter from ACCJC and the External Evaluation Report are posted on the college website at www.cloviscenter.com.
