Clovis Chamber Visits Elementary School Distributes Books to Every Student
Through its Hooked on Books program, the Clovis Chamber will be visiting Cole Elementary School on Friday December 19th to distribute age appropriate new books to every student. Members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors will be going to every classroom to surprise the children with these gifts.
Hooked on Books is part of The Chamber Gives Back effort started 3 years ago by then Board Chairman Rod Geist. For years, he has been volunteering for a reading program at Sierra Vista School where he is warmly called “Super Geist”. He realized that many of the Title 1 students have never had their very own books. The Chamber recognized the value of the program and immediately started the fund raising campaign and distributions.
All funds are received as donations from local businesses and residents. Students from Clovis Unified collect contributions at BIG Hat Days and ClovisFest. Buchanan High School has contributed books acquired during their own book drives. This is the fifth school to be the beneficiary of the Chamber’s and the community’s generosity.
Cole Elementary School is located at 615 West Stuart Ave in Clovis. Classroom visits will start at 8:30 am.
