Big Fresno Fair Seeks Volunteers for its Fair Education Program
FRESNO – The Big Fresno Fair is seeking volunteers for its popular 21st Annual Fair Education Program, which brings Fresno County elementary students to the Fair for free during the 2013 Big Fresno Fair Oct. 2-14.
Volunteers are being sought to help direct students, assist with activities and answer questions in the Fair’s various exhibit buildings. They are needed from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Oct. 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11. Volunteer applications, which are available on the Fair’s website at www.FresnoFair.com, are due on Friday, Sept. 27.
“We are asking our community to lend a helping hand and to take part in this wonderful Fair tradition that brings local students to the Fair on an interactive, educational field trip,” said Lauri King, deputy manager of The Big Fresno Fair. “Our volunteers’ time and effort is greatly appreciated by not only our Fair management, board of directors and staff, but also by the more than 30,000 participating students from kindergarten to eighth grade, as well as their teachers and chaperones.”
The Fair Education Program was created in 1992 and in its 21-year history has brought roughly 400,000 students, teachers and parents to The Big Fresno Fair. Each year, through the Fair Education Program, The Big Fresno Fair offers the opportunity for both students and teachers to visit The Big Fresno Fair free of charge, in an educational effort to expose Fresno County children to the rich agricultural heritage and Fair tradition that is so unique to the Central Valley. Students who visit at least five buildings and successfully complete the activity sheet provided will also receive one free admission ticket, so that students can bring their parents back to The Big Fresno Fair to show them what they have learned. The Fair Education volunteers make this unique and educational program possible each year.
