‘Heroes in HealthCare’ 2013 Awards Healthcare Professional Recipient – Dr. Parmod Kumar
TULARE – Dr. Parmod Kumar with Tulare Regional Medical Center is originally from Jalandhar, India and entered medical school at age 16, inspired by attacks of Pakistani forces on his hometown. His mother took him to a hospital to do volunteer work, and he eventually became acclimated to working with the sick and injured.
Dr. Kumar later joined the U.S. military, and was a military doctor in Germany for several years. Next he moved to New York, where he went through six years of full-schedule training. He later moved to Tulare, where he was attracted to the strong agricultural region that reminded him of his childhood in India.
Dr. Kumar has served for more than 20 years Tulare Local Healthcare District board of directors, and has also spent time as its chairman and president. He was instrumental in securing the affiliation with the Keck Doctors of USC performing the Urologic Robotic Surgery at TRMC. In his private practice he has facilitated over 20 successful organ transplants, and he counsels, qualifies, manages and advocates on behalf of patients needing an organ transplant. He is also known for contributing his time to area schools and non-profit groups; ensuring the youth have appropriate medical clearance for athletics. A leader at the hospital, to date Dr. Kumar has helped raise over $5 million for the Tulare Local Healthcare District.
Dr. Kumar lives in the Tulare area with his wife, Parul, who is an obstetrician and gynecologist. The couple has a son, Dipak.
The “Heroes in HealthCare” awards reception is coming to the Skyroom Lounge in the Holiday Inn Fresno Downtown. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Physician, Nurse, Healthcare Professional, Volunteer, Emergency Response, Innovation, and Dentist.
