Calif. State Sen. Rubio Resigns
FRESNO – California State Sen. Michael Rubio has decided to resign from his office, effective today, to become manager of California government affairs for Chevron Corp.
According to a statement on Rubio’s website, his role as a California state Senator has had an effect on his life with his wife and two daughters, and that he has missed “too many family dinners, bedtime stories and parent-teacher conferences.”
“Our youngest child, who has special needs, has given me great perspective as to life’s priorities and our eldest has reminded me that the most critical decisions are made at home and not under the Capitol dome,” Rubio said in the statement.
Rubio was elected to the 16th State Senate District, a region that covers all or portions of Fresno, Kern, Kings and Tulare counties, in Nov. 2010. A special election will take place to determine who will finish out his term. Rubio’s staff will remain in the district and Capitol offices.
