5 Students Stabbed on UC Merced Campus; Alleged Attacker Fatally Shot: Officials
Merced, Calif. –Five students were injured, including two who were hospitalized, after being stabbed on the University of California, Merced campus Wednesday morning, university officials said in a news release.
UC Merced tweeted just after 8 a.m. that a stabbing had been reported in front of the university’s Classroom and Office Building.Two victims were airlifted to a local hospital, while the three other students were treated on campus, the release stated. All of them were conscious.The conditions of the victims were not immediately known.
The alleged attacker was shot by UC Merced police, and later died of his injuries, according to the release. His identity has not yet been released, and it was not known whether he attended the university.A motive for the attack was also unknown.
There was no longer any “active danger” on campus, but classes have been canceled for the day and the campus was closed, the university tweeted shortly before 9 a.m.More information was expected to be released as it became available throughout the day, the release said.
