40 Under 40: Reggie Ellis – The Foothills Sun-Gazette
Reggie Ellis has been a journalist in California for over 17 years, and is the current publisher and managing editor of the Foothills Sun-Gazette. He also oversaw the launch of the Central Valley’s first full pay-wall newspaper website, fsgnews.com, and is the founder of Central Valley Medical Magazine.

Ellis was raised in Hanford, and attended Hanford High School. A teacher noticed he had an interest in writing and sports, and suggested he become a sports writer. He took classes at College of the Sequoias in Visalia before transferring to San Diego State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2000. He was the opinion editor for the university’s Daily Aztec Newspaper, and later became a graphic artist.
Ellis has worked for Mineral King Publishing since 2001, and as managing editor of the Foothills Sun-Gazette he writes stories, designs ads, serves advertisers, and operates a forklift for deliveries. The paper has one other full-time writer, and anywhere from 5-10 freelance writers at one time. Some of his most memorable stories include a bank robbery in Exeter and the death of National Guardsman Daniel Unger from Exeter, who was one of the few National Guardsmen ever killed in a foreign war.
Some of Ellis’ favorite activities are hiking and camping. He has a wife, Bridget, who he met in high school. They have two children: Alyssa, 5, and Isaac, 3.
