40 Under 40: Elana Landau – Narcotics/Violent Crime Unit – U.S. Attorney’s Office – Eastern District

Elana Landau is a University of Los Angeles, California graduate with a B.A. in political science.  She then earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.  While at UCLA she worked as the quality assurance coordinator – Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, a non-profit organization chaired by Steven Spielberg.  While there, Landau designed and programmed an interactive database to facilitate cataloging of interviews of Holocaust survivors nationally and internationally, and coordinated quality assurance reviews for over 2,000 interviewers conducting videotaped interviews with Holocaust survivors.

Landau was also an assistant media planner for McKann-Erickson Advertising in Los Angeles.  While there she compiled statistical data used in advertising campaigns and laid out charts and graphical presentations of data gathered.

Landau received a prestigious law clerk position at the U.S. Attorney’s Office (U.S. Department of Justice) in Washington, D.C.  There, she drafted and filed government responses to motions in Superior Court, assisted with trial preparation, jury selection and trials.

Upon coming to the Central Valley, Landau first took a position as a deputy district attorney in the Madera County District Attorney’s Office.  There she handled all aspects of felony and misdemeanor cases.  She then moved on to become a deputy district attorney in the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office working as the MAGEC (Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium Unit) prosecutor as well as a prosecutor for the Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Units.

She is currently an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District, which is housed in the Fresno Federal Building.  Since 2008, she has been a prosecutor assigned to the Narcotics and Violent Crime Unit and has prosecuted numerous drug and gang cases.  She is the Hate Crimes Task Force and Human Trafficking point of contact for the Eastern District.

Landau has a daughter Talia, age 4, and they enjoy outdoor activities together.
