40 Under 40: Daniel Castro – Coleman & Horowitt LLP

Daniel Castro is a transplant to Fresno.  Growing up in the rough neighborhood of East Los Angeles, he focused heavily on academics and earned admittance into M.I.T. in Boston.  While there, Castro earned a bachelor’s and master’s in engineering and computer science.  He then was accepted into the prestigious UC Berkeley School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate.  While there he was executive editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal and editor-in-chief of Berkeley’s La Raza Law Journal.

Castro has worked at prestigious law firms in San Francisco and Los Angeles, but moved to Fresno with his 9-year-old son, Marcos.

Castro joined Coleman & Horowitt LLP in 2011.  Prior to joining the firm, he was associated with the law firm of Turocy & Watson LLP and DLA Piper LLP.  Prior to law school, Castro worked as a patent agent at O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles.  While at M.I.T., he received extensive laboratory experience, including coursework, at the M.I.T. Digital Systems Laboratory and the M.I.T. Microsystems Technology Laboratory.

Castro limits his practice to intellectual property matters with an emphasis on patent prosecution.  His experience includes a wide range of electrical and computer technologies, including semiconductor fabrication equipment and processes, computer systems, software, optical networks and components, as well as Internet enabled/related applications.

Castro is a member of Fresno’s Leading Young Professionals, and plays shortstop on the FLYP competitive softball team.  He is part of the M.I.T. Application Recruitment/Review Board for new students from California.  He also teaches LSAT programs for Kaplan in Fresno.

Castro is a member of the Mexican American Bar Association, the Fresno Bar Association, M.I.T. Alumni Association, and the Fresno La Raza Lawyers Association.
